The atmosphere of Burns’ work stretches from kitsch nostalgia towards dismal horror. Themes such as adolescence and sexual awakening intertwine with recurring images of mutation, pestilence, alienation and violence.
The exhibition’s scenography in the Museum M drops the visitor into Burns’ gloomy world.
A dark corridor connects two large rooms that offer an overview of Burns’ varied body of work: comics, illustrations, objects, movies, ... The heart of the exhibition is the big room containing five large display tables and a 21 x 4 m graphic, specially made for the occasion by Burns.
The exhibition boasts more than 200 pieces of art, containing the original plates of Black Hole and his new book X, sketches and illustrations for magazines and books, spanning a period of 30 years.
