Conversion of a former single-family home into a modern, welcoming medical practice.
Groenhof Medical Practice is the transformation of a former single-family home into a medical practice for two young doctors. The three-storey building now houses six consultation rooms: four on the ground floor, alongside a waiting area, accessible toilet, reception, and treatment room. The first floor accommodates a meeting room with kitchen and staff dining area, including toilet and storage, while the second floor provides two additional consultation rooms.
Existing elements were preserved wherever possible. The underfloor heating, staircase, and front façade joinery were retained. At the rear, existing window openings were extended downwards to increase daylight and visibility, without major structural interventions. The design is cleverly organised to allow easy future expansion, enabling the building to grow with the needs of the practice.
The design emphasises greenery and domestic warmth. The curved glass-tile motif from the façade was reused internally to shape the spaces. The lush courtyard remains a focal point, inspiring the practice’s name. Dark green linoleum marks circulation zones, while light green floors define the consultation rooms. Wooden joinery at the entrance, interior doors, and new external timberwork reinforce a warm, welcoming atmosphere throughout the practice.
