Lucia Smelt
Theatre & exhibitions
In Oscar van den Boogaard’s play “Lucia Smelt” the stage is a tufted carpet.
The audience is seated on black benches around the carpet. Above the carpet hangs a frame with 77 coloured spot lights.
The whole is situated in the middle of the theatre hall. An apartment floor plan is drawn in black and white on the carpet. It is in this apartment that the characters meet and interact.
The extreme exposure of the players to the audience creates an uncomfortable feeling of voyeurism, which in its turn underlines the atmosphere of the text.
